As an elderly or senior caregiver, your main responsibility is to provide pleasant companionship, care, and support to the elderly. Other duties and responsibilities include preparing and presenting meals, assisting with bathing, dressing, and grooming, and offering support when walking and doing light exercise.
Like most caregivers, you may also be called upon to perform other tasks to provide your client with a comfortable living environment: These tasks include:
- Monitoring food expiration dates
- Making beds and changing linens as needed
- Doing light housekeeping
- Doing laundry and ironing
- Running errands such as picking up prescriptions and dry cleaning
- Providing medication reminders
- Accompanying them on appointments (hair salon, physical therapy, etc.)
- Escorting them to religious services or events
- Organizing mail
